Who We Are and what we do
The Center for Social-Emotional Learning (CSEL) was founded in June 2014 by a group of concerned educators and other professionals wanting to fill a crucial mental health need in the school communities of the Greater Cincinnati area.
With many children not knowing how to express their emotions in positive ways, effectively communicate, and manage their interpersonal conflicts, our team of dedicated professionals works to teach those skills in order to help our local students achieve individual and communal success.
Many times we find the children we serve lack self-confidence, self-management, and relationship skills. The experienced and compassionate CSEL facilitators use Interactive and Engaging Experiences in school classrooms to assist youth in building these vital personal skills and create school cultures that support success by being caring, respectful, and nonviolent.
Students involved with the CSEL programming are taught the language needed to express their feelings and the communication and cooperation skills necessary to solve problems together. They are given opportunities to develop solutions to the conflicts and problems in their lives. Nurturing creativity and practicing brainstorming are a key part of this process. By engaging in constructive problem solving methods in a safe environment, students are better prepared to effectively manage these conflicts in their daily lives before they escalate.
During CSEL training, there is a focus on learning to respect each other's differences and understand another person’s perspective. With this understanding our students become capable of working together to create a caring, respectful, and productive school environment. Together, all of these skills empower students to become happy and successful, not just in school, but in their homes and communities.
It is our deepest hope and major goal for our students to take these skills from the classroom to their future work life, marriages, parenting, and community at large. With this comprehensive training, we are enhancing the entire lives of our students, giving them the opportunity to be a positive change in the world.
